Leather Care Kit Instructions

Make Your Own Leather Care Balm

Your Raw Barrel DIY Leather Care Kit gives you everything you need to make your own small batch of leather care balm at home.

Your kit contains:
• Beeswax
• Pine Rosin
• Neatsfoot Oil
• Jojoba Oil
• 2 oz reusable tin

Before You Begin
Use a clean, empty metal soup or vegetable can as your dedicated melting container. Place the can in a saucepan of gently heated water to create a double boiler. Do not use a pot, pan, or other cookware that will later be used to prepare food. Never heat the ingredients directly over an open flame. Have your included tin ready before you begin.

Step 1 — Melt & Mix

Place the beeswax and pine rosin in your double boiler and heat gently until completely melted.

Once melted, carefully stir in the neatsfoot oil and jojoba oil. Continue stirring until everything is thoroughly combined and the mixture looks uniform.

Important: Use gentle indirect heat. Do not place the ingredients directly over an open flame, and do not leave the mixture unattended while heating.

Step 2 — Pour & Set

Carefully pour the melted mixture into the included 2 oz tin.

Allow it to cool completely with the lid off until the balm has hardened and reached room temperature. Once completely cool, put the lid on.

Your handmade leather care balm is now ready to use.

That's all for Step 2.

Step 3 — Apply to Leather

Before treating the entire item, test the balm on a small, hidden area first. Leather can vary in color and finish, and conditioning may darken some leather.

  1. Make sure the leather is clean and dry.
  2. Using a soft cloth, apply a small amount of balm.
  3. Rub it into the leather using a thin, even coat.
  4. Allow the balm to absorb.
  5. Buff with a clean, soft cloth to remove excess and bring out the finish.

A little goes a long way. Start with a small amount and apply more only if needed.

Storage & Safety

Store the finished balm in its closed tin in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.

For external use on leather only. Do not ingest. Keep away from children and pets. Use care when heating ingredients, and never heat directly over an open flame.

Always test on a small, inconspicuous area before applying to the entire leather item.
